Goldner Walsh Garden & Home has a long history as a leader in the green industry and will continue to make history as a model for the successful future of our business and profession. We continually evolve our business model to build customer loyalty, while also engaging and nurturing the needs and expectations of emerging customer segments. Here at Goldner Walsh we are transitioning to provide a lifestyle-based destination shopping experience to actively capture, inspire and empower our customers with quality products, services, programs and events that will enrich their lives and the community.
Al Goldner (1918-2003), a native Detroiter, was educated in Dearborn, graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in floriculture and attended Ohio State University doing graduate work. After WWII he returned to the Detroit area to manage Regner’s Nursery in Dearborn in 1947. Goldner then was hired by the J.L. Hudson Company in downtown Detroit as the garden buyer. During his five-year employment, Al was undoubtedly instrumental in the development of Hudson’s Garden Center at the “new” Northland Shopping Center.
Goldner-Walsh, Inc. (named after Al Goldner and his wife Jean Walsh) opened its doors on Telegraph and 12 mile in 1953 on the at 7/8ths acre plat of land (today the home of Wendy’s restaurant). Al Goldner, a true pioneer and gentleman farmer was an innovator in the landscape industry of Michigan. He introduced the concept of combining classical and timeless design enhanced with the selection of premiere and hard to find plant material. Unquestionably, Al Goldner’s creativity combined with his exceptional horticultural expertise set the foundation of our design philosophy that Goldner Walsh Nursery is nationally recognized for today.
Goldner Walsh Garden & Home, located in the historic district of Pontiac, is not only a full-service landscape design-build company with a full-service floral department, garden center, tropical greenhouse, and 9 ½ acre garden plant nursery. We are nationally known for the highest quality and unique plant material, award-winning landscape services, experienced staff, exquisite garden accents, and floral design. We are actively supportive of the local community and the arts. Here at Goldner Walsh we host many events from book signings, cultural events, dinners, art openings, and weddings.
In 1988, Tim Travis, former Operations Manager, and Jim Slezinski, Senior Landscape Designer and Horticulturist, purchased Goldner Walsh from Al Goldner to continue the legend.
At Goldner Walsh, we are collaborating with several complimentary independent businesses located on our campus which diversifies the use of our 9-acre facility providing a more complex array of products and services to serve as a lifestyle garden & home destination. The concept is to combine the experiences and skills of several businesses which independently share the same passion and entrepreneurial spirit to service the needs of a diverse customer base at one location for the benefit and convenience of the customer.
